Earthquake shakes the west coast of Sumatra on Friday morning (9/1). The 6.2 magnitude earthquake shocked the citizen of Padang, West Sumatra.


Including Borneo FC Samarinda team and officials who stayed in Padang after their match against Semen Padang in the match of 2017 Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1 competition at Agus Salim Stadium, Padang. They were panickly ran out of the hotel because of the tremors.


"I was in the bedroom when the shakes happened, I feel a little bit shaky, I reflexively get up and go out of the room, and I see many players are outside too, but it is safe. Now everything is back to normal." said Brillian Sanjaya, the Media Officer of Borneo FC.


As reported by Republike, the epicentrum of the quake was 82 km from Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra. The coordinate of the epicentrum was on 1.3 South Latitude and 99.66 east longitude, with 10 km depth. The information is based on the release of the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) in Minangkabau.


The quake also confirmed to have no potential of tsunami. Nevertheless, some of Borneo FC' player who could not be calm after the quake. Because it is the first time for them to experience earthquake. Previously in th leg 2 semi final of Jenderal Sudirman Cup in 2015, Borneo FC's squad also experienced the quake. At that time, the tremor succeeded to make all of the players ran out of the hotel too.


"In 2015 we experience the same thing, also happened in the morning after the match. Some of us have already experienced earthquake so we were not really panicked, but some of us were never experienced it before so they were quite shock." added Brili.


Borneo FC decided to stay for one day to give a chance to their muslim players and officials to celebrate Eid Al Adha in Padang. They are scheduled to head to Gresik on September 2nd, in the morning to continue preparing for their next away match against Persegres Gresik United on September 4th, 2017. (AHS/ROL/KOK)
