To play their home match outside their homebase in Samarinda, in fact could not stop Borneo FC Samarinda to defeat their opponent. The high-spirited Pesut Etam squad defeated Persiba Balikpapan 1-0 at Mulawarman Stadium, Bontang on Monday (9/25) afternoon in the 2017 Go-Jek Traveloka Liga 1.


Although were in dilemma with the fact that Borneo FC's older brother was stumbling in the degradation zone. However, Borneo FC Samarinda should fight hard for their pride.


Borneo FC Samarinda and Persiba Balikpapan started this closed-door match in lower tempo. Both teams were very careful, and tried to break into each other defensive line.


Slowly, Borneo FC Samarinda started being offensive. After Shane Smeltz's shot was saved by Persiba's goalkeeper, Kurniawan Kartika Aji, Srdan Lopicic struck back with shot from outside penalty box, but the ball was flying over.


The hosting team kept trying to lead the match, including make use of set-piece. Nevertheless, Flavio Beck Junior's free kick and Patrich Wanggai still could not use their chances to create goal. After thirty minutes, there were no threats that given by both team because the duels often happened in the mid field. No goal was created until the end of the first half of the match.


In the second half, the performance of Borneo FC Samarinda was getting better after meeting a deadlock during the first half. Borneo FC kept giving pressures to Persiba's defensive line that pushed them to bring out their best. The golden chance for Borneo FC Samarinda happened in the 55th minute of the match. Lerby Eliandry succeed to break out from the guarding of Persiba's defensive line. But Persiba's goalkeeper did such a good save.


On the other hand, Persiba decided to play defensive and did some counter attacks, one of it happened in the 74th minute of the match. Where the pass from Bryan Cesar was converted into a hard shot by Srdan Lopicic, but was saved by Borneo FC's goalkeeper, Muhammad Ridho. After three minutes, Borneo FC Samrinda created their first goal. Sultan Samma did penetration throught wing sector and then passed the ball to Smeltz which created into goal.


Persiba started to fight back, after Borneo's first goal. On the 80th minute of the match,Persiba gave another threat through Maldini. However,Borneo's goal keeper, Muhammad Ridho managed to save his goal. The 1-0 result lasted until the final whistle blown. The result make Borneo FC's position to lifted, Borneo FC recently sit in the eighth position of the standing and collected 36 points while Persiba stayed in the 17th position of the standing and collected 19 points.
